Well this is surprising! j/k not really. They had to replace a loud mouth with another loud mouth. Joan was the most entertaining thing that show had going, and who best to try to fill her shoes (if possible)?
NeNe Leakes is well-known for telling it like it is and has proven that point on Real Housewives Of Atlanta.
Now comes word that the 46-year-old reality star might be the new caustic co-host on E!’s Fashion Police.
NeNe would fill the spot left vacant by the late Joan Rivers who tragically passed away on September 4 following complications from outpatient throat surgery at age 81.
Although comedienne Kathy Griffin was said to be on top of the replacement list, NeNe is swaying producers to choose her, Perezhilton.com is reporting.
A source told the news site that the powers-that-be like NeNe because she has ‘serious comedic timing, but also because E! is looking to diversify their panel with a different ethnicity.’
NeNe should be more than comfortable in front of the camera, having starred on Bravo’s Real Housewives Of Atlanta since it premiered on October 7, 2008.
The platinum buzz-haired star also starred in the spin-off series I Dream of NeNe: The Wedding, which revolved around the preparations surrounding her remarriage to husband Gregg Leakes.
NeNe also has a successful clothing line that debuted on HSN that makes her even more attractive to Fashion Police bosses.
The reality star has also helped Andy Cohen comment on fashions at Hollywood awards shows for What What Happens: Live.
In May, NeNe hinted that she is planning an exit from Real Housewives Of Atlanta.
‘I’m happy to do some things,’ she told Rob Shuter of VH1’s The Gossip Table. ‘I don’t know if I’m happy to be a full-time Housewife. I will still work for Bravo. We just need to work out some things.’
NeNe added: ‘I’m in a different place in my life. I personally don’t want to go to work every day where you have to be negative. When I wake up every morning and I go off to be negative it just feels like it spills over into my regular life. You become what you work.’
Besides Kathy Griffin, other contenders for the coveted Fashion Police seat include Tyra Banks, Amy Schumer and Lisa Lampanelli.
Fashion Police debuted in 2010 and Giuliana Rancic, Kelly Osbourne and George Kotsiopoulos also serve as hosts.
